I usually spray a little bleach cleaner on the floor I’m mopping. My house has never been so clean and the Black and Decker mop is as quick and easy as using a vacuum. When I’m done mopping, it’s just a quick couple minute job to wring out the 6 pads in cold water in the sink, till the water stops looking so grey. I use one per room for the rest of the house. I keep around 6 clean pads for an entire house, with two marked for bathroom only. My steam mop heads end up FAR dirtier than regular mop heads (indicating a job well done) - but are also easier to wring out in the sink. It’s not so much that its steam that makes it great, but that it will keep your mop pad the perfect wetness with scorching hot water. Just be sure to buy an extra 5 pack of fabric mop pads made for the model you get and you’re golden. They’ve probably never tried a good one, like a Black and Decker 7 in 1. I noticed on previous threads that numerous redditors have written off steam mops as pointless gimicks. It really doesn't matter all that much but I just don't like having a mop pad with dirt stains on it since then you can't really tell how much dirt it mopped up lol Just a tip, when you're done using it, make sure you run the mop pad under cold water in the sink to help prevent stains from setting in. This the one I got for about $100 but I got it from my local Best Buy. I ended up buying a set of after market steam mop pads as well on amazon for like $20 just to have some extras. I've spilled water a few times on the floor and when I went to wipe it up the paper towel was still white and there was no dirt to be found! Also worth mentioning we have a dog and sometimes do forget to take our shoes off at the door when we come in. It's been keeping my floors super clean since we moved in. Just bought a house with hardwood floors and the previous owners never cleaned. I found this video super helpful when I was researching what Steam Mop to get a few months ago! I ended up getting the Bissell Powerfresh 1806 and I love it. I bought mine at Costco for $200, and I can't recommend it highly enough. It's usually $230 on Amazon, but you can find it for less occasionally. It also includes a water filter, which means you don't have to use distilled water. Both the Karcher and the McCulloch come with attachments for grout and and the like, but the main difference is that the Karcher is steam on demand, which means that it's ready to go in under a minute, and you can refill as you work. You also need to wait for it to cool down completely before refilling, or risk getting a face-full of steam. It uses a sealed boiler, which means that you fill it, screw down a pressure cap, and then wait for it to heat all of the water before use. The McCullouch is still kicking after 5 years, but I never use it anymore. The Shark was an upright, and so was really only useful for doing floors, and died after about 2 years. I've had a Shark upright, a McCulloch canister, and now a Karcher SC3, with the Karcher being the best of the bunch by far.
